Pankaj Mishra is a prolific and widely published Indian essayist and novelist. His most recent book, From the Ruins of Empire: The
Revolt Against the West and the Remaking of Asia, was published in 2012. His first book, Butter Chicken in Ludhiana: Travels in Small
Town India (1995), is a travelogue that describes the social and cultural changes in India in the context of globalization. His other
works include Temptations of the West: How to be Modern in India, Pakistan and Beyond (2007) and India in Mind (2005). His literary
and political essays have appeared in the New York Times, the New York Review of Books, and the Guardian, among other American,
British, and Indian publications.
