Representations of food and drink in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art were multifaceted: Food could reference the divine, greed, rowdy behavior, fertility, sustenance, or simply the satisfaction of eating a good meal. Artists also embraced imaginative approaches to decorating objects used for serving or containing food and drink. Veronica White, curator of academic programs, gives a taste of artworks from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including works from the Museum’s collections.
