With the goal of informing local food-action planning, we developed the first county-level database detailing agrifood consumption and production across 3,114 counties in the United States. The database covers 12,070 food items that comprise the entire diet, mapping them to the production demand of 95 agrifood commodities (encompassing 94% of dietary intake). This 3-min. sneak peek discusses the per capita demand of agrifood, delineated by how much the food was processed before being consumed. In total, the Average American consumes over one metric ton of agrifood (1,145 kg), over two-thirds of which are consumed in the form of processed food. Another metric ton of animal feed (1,130 kg) is further required to satisfy the Average American's intake of animal products like milk, eggs, and livestock meats.
