In the third Voices event from the Novogratz Bridge Year Program, Zhang Jinming, a social worker at Yunnan Parallel (云南平行), discussed his photojournalism work documenting the LGBT community in China. Through his photographs, Zhang highlights the experiences of LGBT individuals in China and the challenges faced around access to healthcare, housing, employment and education.
Yunnan Parallel was established in 2007 to provide support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Over the years their work and their community have grown and they now are an organization of 5 full time employees and many volunteers that provide AIDS testing and therapy, sexual education programming with schools and universities, as well as support services for the LGBTQIA elderly populations in Kunming.
