As part of the Voices series from the Novogratz Bridge Year Program, Senegalese journalist
and activist Ndeye Bouba Seck hosted a panel discussion about women and gender
roles in Senegal. The conversation focused on the current sociopolitical climate for women
in Senegal, including the realities of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the
realities of balancing their professional lives and income-generating activities.
Seck is currently the radio coordinator at
Manoore
FM, a radio station in Dakar that
aims to provide a greater platform for the voices and concerns of women.
The three panelists – Maguette Fall, a preschool teacher and camp
counselor, Daba Seck, an auxiliary nurse, and Madeleine Gueye, a restaurant
owner – discussed their experiences as women in Senegalese society.
