The Princeton University Art Museum Student Advisory Board welcomes MacArthur Prize–winning artist Shahzia Sikander in conversation with Art Museum Director James Steward. Engaging ideas of language, trade, empire, and migration through feminist perspectives, Sikander’s paintings, video animations, mosaics, and sculpture explore gender, sexuality, racial narratives, and colonial histories, showcasing art of the South Asian diaspora as a contemporary American tradition. Reception to follow.
Commissioned by Princeton University in 2017, Sikander's intricately layered painting on glass and sixty-six-foot-tall mosaic scroll are permanently installed in the Julis Romo Rabinowitz Building and the Louis A. Simpson International Building.
