To help prepare the more than 200 students engaging in service internships this summer, the Pace Center for Civic Engagement held a joint-program orientation on Friday, May 21. Students connected with community partners, engaged in discussions, connected with peers, and learned more about the issues that matter most to them. To begin the day, Kimberly de los Santos, the John C. Bogle '51 and Burton G. Malkiel *64 Executive Director of the Pace Center, welcomed everyone. In addition, Dr. Timothy Eatman, an educational sociologist and publicly engaged scholar in the department of Urban Education at Rutgers University-Newark, led a conversation with Eric Marsh of WHYY's News & Information Community Exchange (N.I.C.E.), Pastor Karen Hernandez Granzen of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Trenton, and Thomas von Oehsen, founder and executive director of Trenton Circus Squad.
