Alsarah & The Nubatones is a Brooklyn-based, East-African, retro-pop group that was formed in 2010 by Alsarah, a Sudanese-American singer, songwriter, and ethnomusicologist. The group blends Nubian "songs of return" from the 1970s to today with original material and traditional music of central Sudan.01 Alsarah is passionate about the intersection of culture, music, and migration and has performed with other groups such as The Nile Project. Alsarah and the Nubatones create a lavish, joyful, era-spanning sound full of Arabic-language reflections on identity and survival. They have performed at various venues, including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Meany Center.
Nadine El Roubi is a Sudanese artist based out of the USA. With a combined background of Egyptian and Iranian ethnicity, Nadine’s music explores the complex intersectional identity of being a third-cultured Afro-Arab woman. Through a blend of neo-soul, RnB, and hip-hop, Nadine aims to bring listeners closer to her world and unique experiences, delving into themes like self-love, spirituality, and empowerment. Nadine has performed in Sudan, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the UK. In October 2022, she released her debut project entitled Triplicity, a 5-song EP embodying each element of the zodiac.
