Stealthy hyperuniform heterostructures are a novel type of metamaterial that display photonic band gaps (PBG) and isotropy simultaneously. In this project, we have successfully designed, fabricated, and characterized a hole-based stealthy hyperuniform structure on a quantum cascade (QC) layer substrate. More specifically, in the video we cover in detail the fabrication process required to make these stealthy devices. The infrared spectral data shows a sizable PBG of 9.8% around 12.0 μm in the form of an enhanced reflection region. it also shows spatial isotropy by its unchanging reflection spectrum for all in-plane rotational angle measurements.
