Terry Seymour will describe and show us his extraordinary collection of the books, papers, and artworks identified with the protean Scottish biographer, traveler, and diarist James Boswell (1740-1795). Seymour’s collection comprises Boswell’s private papers, portraits of his mother and great-grandmother, personal books, and more first editions of Boswell’s "Life of Johnson" than in any library in the world, except for Harvard.
Seymour, a member of the FPUL Executive Committee, spoke to us last August about his collection of the historic Everyman’s Library. Seymour will also discuss his first edition of Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language, as well as the third, fourth and eighth editions. In addition, Seymour’s holdings include his first edition of the landmark Oxford English Dictionary. The program will be moderated by Landon Jones.
