This presentation argues in support of incorporating spatial and kinetic elements into the Western literary tradition, emphasizing the role of ASL poetry in mainstream poetry. We will also encourage non-native users of the language to create literary works through ASL. This creative process can significantly improve their fluency and comprehension, which is essential to the ASL curriculum at Princeton. Overall, this presentation aims to make a compelling case for redefining traditional notions of literature.
